Installation of Civic HID Kits
One of the hottest new trends to hit the automobile industry within the past few years has been the HID, or high-intensity discharge headlights. These are headlights that are capable of having intense bright light made possible through the burning of a special inert gas called xenon.
First introduced by BMW to the market in 1991, HID kits have quickly become the must have addition to a vast array of vehicles spanning from old classic muscle cars to the sleek contemporary Honda Civic. Often the attraction is not simply the appearance and incredible power, but also how easy Civic HID kits are to install. In order to add one to your existing vehicle you will need to mount a unique ballast that will convert the Civic’s existing 12v DC battery to a larger range power capable of igniting the xenon gas.
Not only are Civic HID kits an exciting new lighting technology, but automobile enthusiasts are now also utilizing this in addition to the popular LED lighting. This is also an expanding technology that is extremely versatile due to its durability, amazing energy efficiency, and cost effectiveness. LEDs are being used in a variety of new ways and because they do not use a filament they are solid and ideal for vehicle use. When combined with HIDs they can create a unique look. Often the LED is used in a group formed into a circle and then placed over a projector ring. This is sometimes referred to as a HALO, and the combination of the two lighting systems creates a remarkable bluish white glow.
Although installing Civic HID kits is quite easy, it is always a good idea to first make sure that your work area is safe before beginning. You can do this by simply making certain your engine is turned off, your Civic’s battery has been unplugged, and it is a good idea to even wait until your vehicle’s engine has completely cooled off.
Replacing the halogen bulb
Installation begins by first replacing your old halogen bulb with a new xenon bulb. To do this, first locate your vehicle’s low beam dust cover, usually found in the very back of the headlight assembly. You can take off the cover by turning it, and once you have done so you can remove the halogen bulb by unplugging it from the wiring.
Plugging in the xenon bulb and installing the new ballast
To finish installation of your HID you need to first find a location to mount the special ballast that will be secure and safe. It is important to note that the Civic was not originally created with the new lighting technology in mind. You will need to find a location for the ballast that is out of the way, but also within reaching distance of both the new bulb, and the wiring.
After you have secured the ballast you can plug in the new bulb, but be careful not to touch the glass of the bulb.
Upon finishing the installation it is a good idea to go back through and double check all connections, including how secure the ballast is. Once you have done this, test your new lights.
